The Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) is a 112-bed hospital located in Midland, Ontario. It offers services comparable to other community hospitals in the province supporting the general health care needs of patients.  GBGH serves a population base of approximately 55,000 which swells to more than 200,000 for six months of the year as seasonal residents enjoy the magnificence offered by Georgian Bay itself.

 The Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation (GBGHF) is a registered non-profit charitable organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds in support of the Georgian Bay General Hospital, for such items as capital equipment, building expansions and renovations, and programs and services not funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The Foundation’s funding priorities are established by the Hospital through its annual capital budget process.

 The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Foundation staff currently consists of an Executive Director, and two full-time and one part-time Development Associates, who oversee and administer day-to-day operations.

Position Description

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors of GBGHF on a monthly basis and interacts on a regular basis with the President of the Board. His/her key responsibilities are to:

  • Establish goals and implement strategies to effectively achieve fundraising targets
  • Increase donor development opportunities and ties to the local communities
  • Maintain effective relationships with Staff, the Board and donors of the Foundation
  • Provide leadership to Staff and the Board as well as manage the day to day activities of the Foundation
  • Train and prepare for succession of the Executive Director position
  • Comply with policies and procedures of the Foundation and the Hospital
  • Prepare for and present updates and reports at monthly Board meetings and, as needed, within the community and Hospital
  • Ensure the utilization of donations in accordance with applicable laws and donor wishes

Qualifications

The ideal Executive Director for GBGHF will possess and demonstrate the following qualities:

  • A minimum of seven years’ experience of demonstrated success in the non-for-profit fundraising sector, or demonstrated success in other leadership positions of professional or volunteer organizations
  • Ability to direct and lead staff with a hands-on management approach
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders including donors, Board Members, volunteers and staff
  • A proven team player who displays initiative and creative thinking
  • Well-developed strategic planning and budget management skills; ability to optimize available resources
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial planning and accountability
  • Demonstrated passion and understanding of the Healthcare Sector
  • Proven ability to establish long-term and meaningful relationships
  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent
  • Previous not-for-profit charitable sector experience preferable but not mandatory

Terms of Employment:  Full time

Start Date: March 2019

Remuneration:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience
