IMPACT OF GIVING 2020
GIVING TUESDAY
DECEMBER 3, 2019
The Foundation participated in Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving
following Black Friday & Cyber Monday. With a goal to raise $20,000 to
purchase 50 patient slings, we took to email and social media to share the
message and ask the community to get involved. Thanks to a generous
$10,000 matching gift from Nick & Marina Boudouris (owners of OPA
Catering & The World Famous Dock Lunch restaurant), and 65 generous
donors, the campaign successfully raised $26,500 and the hospital was
outfitted with 50 new patient slings in the spring of 2020.
COVID-19
RESPONSE FUND
With COVID-19 on everyone’s minds, our community stepped up with
incredible support for Georgian Bay General Hospital. Donations of Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) helped ensure our staff and patients remained
safe, at a time when PPE supplies were stretched across the country. Local
restaurants and businesses stepped up to provide beverages, meals
and snacks to fuel our teams while they worked tirelessly to adapt to new
procedures and pandemic preparedness. And, our appeal letters to you, our
valued donors, were met with incredible response, with more than $85,000
raised to help our hospital fund critical equipment such as additional IV
Infusion Pumps, vital signs monitors, medication carts and a call bell system.
GIVING TUESDAY NOW
MAY 5, 2020
Giving Tuesday Now was organized as an emergency response to the
COVID-19 pandemic, giving the Foundation the opportunity to raise funds
for some of the critical equipment purchased to prepare the hospital to
respond to a potential surge of patients. Five patient beds were required
to create a separate ICU surge space, at a cost of $60,000. When Conrad
& Donna Huber heard about the campaign, they were excited to offer a
matching gift of $30,000 to help us reach our goal. In less than 24 hours,
thanks to the generosity of our community, nearly $80,000 was raised to
address this and other COVID-19 preparedness equipment purchases.
