HARVEY’S in Midland hosts fundraising day for GBGH

Seven Harveys restaurant employees pose in their black uniforms under the menu boards.

The team at Harvey’s Midland is ready to welcome customers on Wednesday, July 8th, (11AM – 9PM) when 10% of all net sales will be donated to support the most critical needs at Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH).

Harvey’s in Midland will be donating 10% of all net sales on Wednesday July 8, 2020 to the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation.

“It is so important to support the needs of our hospital,” says Ken King, owner of Harvey’s Swiss Chalet in Midland.  “We are hosting this fundraising day to help ensure that our hospital is equipped with the tools and technology they need to care for our community.”

Funds raised on July 8th will support the emerging capital equipment needs at GBGH, including the important investment made to prepare the hospital for a potential surge in COVID-19 patients.

In planning for the hospital’s pandemic preparations, GBGH carefully reviewed provincial and regional case projections to determine what was required to continue providing safe, exceptional care in a surge situation.

“Our preparedness strategy has included designating “cold” and “hot” zones for the care of non-COVID, and presumptive or confirmed COVID patients,” says Gail Hunt, president & CEO, GBGH. “This means physically dividing some areas of the hospital, including the Emergency department, an inpatient unit and the ICU; and also purchasing some new equipment.”

This critically needed equipment and other initiatives have cost well over $500,000.

Meanwhile, the capital requirements at GBGH continue to increase. As equipment ages, technology advances, and healthcare standards evolve, the hospital must continue to invest in the tools required to care for our community.

The list of unmet capital equipment and technology at GBGH totals more than $5-million, and is expected to reach $20-million in the next few years.

Community members can help Harvey’s Midland support GBGH by vising the restaurant for lunch or dinner on July 8th from 11:00am to 9:00pm.  The restaurant is located at 9340 HWY 93 in Midland, across from Georgian Bay General Hospital.
