Hospital Infrastructure Funding Announcement – August 5th, 2016

Simcoe County Hospitals Receiving Provincial Funding for Repairs, Upgrades

Ontario is providing $175 million in 2016–17 to hospitals across the province — an increase of $50 million over last year’s funding — to keep them in a state of good repair so patients can continue to receive high-quality care in a safe and healthy environment.

In Simcoe County, six hospitals will receive more than $5.3 million this year through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF). These investments include:

Georgian Bay General Hospital – $627,001

Stevenson Memorial Hospital—$162,727

Collingwood General and Marine Hospital—$816,395

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital – $3,045,180

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre – $23,089

Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care – $734,592

HIRF funding supports crucial infrastructure projects to extend the useful life or improve the quality of their facilities. Projects may include upgrades or replacements to roofs, windows, HVAC systems, fire alarms and back-up generators.

“I want to thank Ms. Hoggarth for coming here today with such great news. Ours is an aging hospital, and the infrastructure dollars mean we are better able to keep up with the maintenance of it. This money will put a new roof on our building and we are also looking at replacing the more than 40-year-old windows.”
