2020/2021 PRIORITIES

          COVID-19 PREPAREDNESS $500,000

Designating “hot” and “cold” zones in the ICU, Emergency Department and one
inpatient unit to prepare for potential COVID patients has meant investing in
additional hospital beds, vital signs monitors, a Pyxis medication dispensing unit,
an additional call bell system for the ICU surge space, and more IV pumps. It was
also necessary to renovate six inpatient rooms to be negative pressure rooms.

          TELEMETRY PACKS $155,000

These portable heart monitors are used in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to
continually monitor and record a patient’s heart rate and rhythm. They are used
to watch the pattern of a patient’s heartbeat; identify any problems with their
heart beat; and ensure that medications are working effectively. For patients
recovering from heart attack, stroke or other trauma, consistent monitoring of
heart function enables the medical team to provide the best possible care.

          MEDITECH EXPANSE $6 MILLION

A multi-year, multi-million dollar innovative project that leaves behind most of
the manual (paper) systems that we currently use, and puts everything that we
need to know about a patient in a legible, digital record at the fingertips of the
entire clinical team. This is a joint project resulting in one patient record among
four hospitals (GBGH, RVH, Collingwood & Headwaters).

In 2007, Gerard La Chapelle & his family set up an education fund to honour
the memory of their wife & mother Gail. Each year, a bursary is awarded
