2021/2022 EQUIPMENT PRIORITIES
CARE4 – ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD $8.4M
Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and the exchange of health information electronically can
help provide higher quality and safer care for patients, while also providing our entire team
with more accurate, up-to-date information, stream-lined processes and improved security.
Part of the total project cost is software, implementation & training. The project also
requires significant technology upgrades to work with the new system, including barcode
scanners & printers, label printers, portable workstations, tablets, dictation microphones
and additional computers.
CENTRAL MONITORING $1.3M
In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), monitoring of vital signs is an essential part of patient care,
as changes in heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure and respiration rate can indicate
the need for intervention. The central monitoring system is comprised of advanced patient
monitors and specialized software which monitors patients in all departments and delivers
the real-time data back to the ICU desk. The entire system has reached the end of life and
must be replaced.
FRESHFLEX™ $160,000
Freshflex™ is an innovative menu system, built on fresh, flavourful, nutritious meals. Within
the program, patients choose from a 7-21 day menu that includes choices for starters,
entrees and desserts. Nutrition plays a key role in a patient’s journey back to health, and
providing them with meals they want to eat, and that meet their unique dietary needs, helps
to ensure their recovery as soon as possible, often meaning a shorter hospital stay. The key
to the program is the equipment needed to safely and efficiently cook, store and deliver
meals to patients at the hospital.
OPHTHALMOSCOPE $253,000
This surgical microscope provides better clarity and precision to surgeons, enabling
excellent outcomes for a variety of surgical procedures including cataracts, corneal repairs,
retinal surgeries and correction of glaucomas. With great demand in our community for
cataract surgery, up to 20 patients per day could receive treatment with this new, improved
version of our current ophthalmoscope.
DEFIBRILLATORS & CRASH CARTS $300,000
A crash cart is a self-contained, mobile unit that is equipped with all the essential life
support accessories necessary to respond to an urgent medical emergency within the
hospital, including a defibrillator. Our ability to quickly, and efficiently, deliver the critical
tools and medication to the site of a medical emergency is what saves lives. We need to
replace our entire fleet of crash carts and defibrillators (11 in total) at GBGH, plus we require
a more compact defibrillator when patients are requiring monitoring, or pacing during
transport to another facility.
