2022 REASONS TO CELEBRATE
POWER OF GIVING VIRTUAL GALA
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, the Foundation hosted the Power of Giving
Hybrid Gala, in person at Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene and online
through the Foundation’s You Tube channel. The event, presented by Faris Team
Real Estate Brokerage, raised more than $385,000 for the Foundation’s Impact
Fund, which addresses the highest priority capital needs for GBGH. One of the
key priorities on the horizon for the hospital is building a comprehensive acute
mental health program, which inspired the event’s focus on mental health
awareness and advocacy,
SEGBAY GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Southeast Georgian Bay (SEGBAY) Chamber of Commerce, in partnership
with Bell Media’s Pure Country 106 and Bounce 104.1, hosted its 9th Annual Golf
Tournament on August 18, 2022. The tournament raised a total of $33,000 –
with $22,000 being dedicated to the GBGH Foundation’s Kickstart Your Heart
Campaign, which is raising funds to help purchase cardiac monitors and ECG
machines for Georgian Bay General Hospital.
EVENING WITH GBGH
On October 13, 2022, the Foundation and members of the GBGH Team hosted a
special event where a small group of donors visited the hospital to see a mock-
trauma scenario. Our guests visited the ED, Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory,
with a focus on raising funds for some key pieces of equipment within these
departments. Our donors came together to raise $201,000 for equipment that
night!
CARE CART
In September 2022, the leadership team at Georgian Bay General Hospital
(GBGH) partnered with Tom Smith Chevrolet Buick GMC to launch the Care
Cart, an initiative to bring smiles and snacks to front-line workers at the
hospital. Steve Jacklin, owner of Tom Smith Chevrolet Buick GMC heard
about the Care Cart, and was inspired to support the initiative for its first
year with a donation to buy the cart and keep it stocked.
A LOVE-FILLED TRIBUTE FOR THE HOLIDAYS
For more than 30 years, Bill and Arlene Schumacher called Sand Castle Beach
in Tiny Township their summer home. When Arlene passed away suddenly in
October 2020 – just a few months shy of their 60th wedding anniversary – Bill
continued to support the causes they both cared deeply about. Each year since,
Bill has donated $14,000 in memory of the love of his life. Bill chose the number
fourteen for his gift, as January 14th was the day of Bill & Arlene’s wedding
anniversary, and their son Bradley’s birthday on February 14th (Valentine’s Day).
