Injectable medications must be sterile, free of all contamination from the normal bacteria in our environment. Biological Safety Cabinets are vital to the
pharmacy’s sterile compounding service, in place to ensure patient safety. These units are made of durable stainless steel that withstands frequent
cleaning with bactericidal and sporicidal agents. They are equipped with air flow and Hepa filters that support a sterile workspace.

At GBGH, the existing sterile compounding hood is more than 22 years old and has reached the end of its safe lifespan. Without this equipment, the
Pharmacy would be unable to safely continue this vital service—directly impacting patient care across the hospital.
Installing two new hoods in our new space is critical to meeting safety standards, maintaining Pharmacy services, and supporting future growth. These

cabinets are a foundational investment in ensuring medications are prepared safely, accurately, and to the highest standards.
