The Laboratory is a cornerstone of patient care at Georgian Bay General Hospital, providing the
test results that guide diagnoses, treatment decisions, and emergency care every day. GBGH’s
highly engaged Laboratory team consistently delivers high-quality results, demonstrated by
their recent Accreditation survey, where they met more than 99% of nearly 2,000 rigorous
requirements.

While laboratory technology has advanced—becoming faster, larger, and more powerful—the
physical space has not kept pace. The current laboratory layout dates back to 1976 and is no
longer suited to modern equipment, workflows, or today’s infection control and safety standards.

Renovating the space will transform the Laboratory into a modern, purpose-built environment
with an efficient layout, safer flooring and benchtops, improved ventilation and temperature
control, and dedicated access points for blood bank and specimen collection.
