In cancer surgery, precision matters. When surgeons are removing small or hard-to-find tumours, especially in breast cancer procedures, the ability
to locate cancerous tissue accurately can mean the difference between complete removal and the need for additional surgery. The navigator probe
allows surgeons to locate sentinel lymph nodes and hidden tumours with accuracy and confidence.
This equipment is classified as critical because it comes into direct contact with blood, tissue, and vascular structures during surgery. For patient
safety, it must be fully sterile. At GBGH, the existing probe has reached end of life and is no longer safe or reliable. Currently, it is covered with a sterile
plastic drape—a temporary workaround with increased risk.
