During surgery, a clean, well-controlled environment is essential to protecting patients from infection and supporting the best possible
outcomes. Surgical lighting plays a critical role—not only by allowing surgeons to see clearly, but by helping keep the air around the patient
clean and free of contaminants.

New operating room lights are designed to allow clean air to move smoothly down and around the surgical site, while providing consistent,
high-quality illumination. This steady flow of air helps clear heat, surgical smoke, and airborne particles away from the patient, reducing the
chance that bacteria can settle into an open incision.
GBGH’s current dome-shaped lights have reached end of life and were not designed with today’s infection prevention standards in mind.

Replacing lighting in both operating rooms will improve visibility, support cleaner air around every patient, and reduce risk during surgery.
