Together, you made it possible.
In 2023, Georgian Bay General Hospital received approval from the Ontario Ministry of Health to move forward with plans for a new MRI machine — a critical service for patients across our region. The GBGH Foundation quickly launched a bold $4-million fundraising campaign to purchase the MRI and help fund the expansion needed to house this essential technology.
Your response was incredible!
In less than two years, more than 1,800 individuals, businesses, and community organizations came together to raise the funds to build a brand-new 2,500 sq. ft. addition at GBGH that has been designed specifically for the MRI program.
The wait is over.
On March 17, 2025, the very first patient received an MRI at GBGH.
“I can’t tell you how much this has actually reduced my stress and anxiety of not having to commute outside of our community for this type of care,” shares Maureen Reid, MRI patient. “To all the donors, thank you so much for your support. We really appreciate it.”
This is a game-changer for thousands of patients each year who previously had to travel to Barrie, Orillia, or beyond for MRI appointments. Now, with an MRI available right here at home, wait times across the region will decrease and patients can get answers more quickly, start treatment sooner and begin their road to recovery.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this a reality: those who gave, who shared our campaign, who partnered with us in fundraising events, and who continue to believe in the power of community-driven care.
Thank you for empowering GBGH to continue to deliver excellent healthcare.
