Most people know about Black Friday & Cyber Monday… And, then comes #GIVINGTUESDAY! A day that marks the opening day of the giving season.

Tuesday, November 30, 2021 is Giving Tuesday and this year, we are excited to bring the community together to support the Lab at Georgian Bay General Hospital.

We are raising funds to purchase 2 Blood Gas Analyzers for the Laboratory ($13,500 each), which are critical to providing accurate, timely results for patient diagnosis and treatment.

When patients arrive to the Georgian Bay General Hospital Emergency Department in distress, blood gas analysis allows our physicians to get a clear picture of what’s happening inside the body – and fast!

Measurement of oxygen levels for patients in cardiac or respiratory crisis identifies the need for ventilation or breathing intervention.

PH analysis is critical to determine treatment for patients in diabetic shock and continuous blood gas testing monitors whether treatment is effective.

In situations of infection or trauma, blood gas analysis for lactic acid and C02 can help reveal the severity and direct the course of treatment.

And, beyond the Emergency Department, regular blood gas analysis is part of critical care in the Intensive Care Unit, ongoing monitoring for patients with COVID-19 and a standard test for all new babies to check metabolic condition at birth.

Our current blood gas analyzers are old, and the manufacturer is no longer providing service or support if something breaks down. The new analyzers are faster, providing test results in 3-4 minutes, meaning treatment & monitoring can begin sooner. This is vital as more than 10,000 blood gas tests took place at GBGH in 2020!

Nick & Marina with SlingSince the need is so critical, Nick & Marina Boudouris and family (owners of OPA Catering, the World Famous Dock Lunch and Pier 21 Restaurant) have generously offered to match your donation** so that any gift you give will go twice as far to help our patients today.

** Donations will be matched up to $10,000.
