On May 11, 2022, McDonald’s restaurants in Midland and Elmvale partnered with the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto for McHappy Day®. A total of $26,000 was raised, and the GBGH Foundation received $13,000 to purchase safe, reliable Phototherapy Light Systems, used to help newborns with hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice).
“Year after year we feel so very proud to be part of such a giving community,” says Carol Cruden, co-owner of the McDonald’s restaurants in Midland & Elmvale. “We want to say thank you so much to everyone for their generosity and support. A special thank you to our entire McDonald’s team, and the many volunteers who came out to help make McHappy Day® a great success.”
In 2018, Mark & Carol Cruden, owners of the McDonald’s restaurants in Midland and Elmvale, began a partnership with the GBGH Foundation to direct a portion of McHappy Day® proceeds to help the local hospital’s smallest patients. Funds from the campaign have helped to build a children’s play area in the redeveloped Emergency department at GBGH, and they continue to help purchase items for the hospital’s Birthing Unit.
