On April 1, 2025, the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation will launch the final draw of the GBGH 50/50 Lottery. The GBGH Foundation launched the monthly lottery in June 2023 to support the hospital’s most urgent priorities.

The decision to end the lottery has been made after reviewing the financial impact of the program, and recognizing that individuals can have a much greater impact on the hospital through other fundraising activities.

“The GBGH 50/50 Lottery has been a lot of fun for everyone involved, including our staff team,” shares Nicole Kraftscik, CEO, GBGH Foundation. “But, we’ve realized that the costs to operate the lottery greatly reduce the impact of every ticket purchase. After early bird prizes, fees and administration, only 25% of each ticket purchase is available to invest in our hospital.”

Although the local 50/50 draw is ending, those wishing to purchase lottery tickets in support of GBGH can still do so through the Ontario-wide Split the Pot Lottery. Ticket purchasers have the option to direct the proceeds from their tickets to the participating hospital of their choice or split between all participating hospitals.

The GBGH Foundation is also putting a special focus on their Monthly Giving program, where individuals make an affordable gift every month, which collectively adds up to big impact each year. To learn more about making a difference at GBGH with a monthly gift, click here.

The final GBGH 50/50 draw will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025 with a minimum jackpot of $10,000, and four $1,000 early bird prizes. Tickets can be purchased starting on April 1, 2025 at https://gbgh5050.ca/.

From February 24-28, 2025, the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation held the fifth annual Team Giving Celebration Week to recognize staff who donate to the hospital and encourage new donations. The celebration resulted in a total of $43,400 in financial pledges from 134 team members at the hospital.  This brings total participation to more than 17% of the GBGH Staff Team. 

“The week-long celebration was a great success,” says Robyn Blanchet, community giving officer, GBGH Foundation. “We offered lots of ways to be involved, with free meals, treats and lots of prizes, and the GBGH Crew were so engaged and excited to participate. We are thankful for our local business partners who support the celebration, including Domino’s Pizza Midland, Sweet Treats Factory, Tom Smith Chevrolet Buick GMC and The PULSE Nutrition.” 

Members of the GBGH Team Giving Circle, which includes 100 per cent of the hospital’s senior leadership team, can direct their donations to funding equipment purchases, education & wellness initiatives or the Foundation’s Impact Fund. The Impact Fund provides the hospital with the flexibility to respond to urgent capital needs, such as when a critical piece of equipment suddenly breaks down. 

“I am happy to give back to the hospital who provides so much to our community,” says GBGH Team Giving Member Maggie Duivenvoorden. “I’m proud to be a staff member but also contribute to our hospital’s growth”. 

In 2024, the GBGH Team Giving Circle contributed $37,000 to the Foundation, which funded a Pyxis Medication Dispensing Unit for the Emergency Department. This secure, state-of-the-art unit keeps critical medications within reach, ensuring that pain, fever, and other urgent concerns are treated quickly and safely.

Jeff Holloway, Director

Jeff works at RBC Dominion Securities in Midland and joined RBC Wealth Management in 2014. In his current role, Jeff provides wealth management solutions to business owners, executives, professionals, and retirees.

Prior to working at RBC, Jeff was a partner at a leadership consulting firm and was a vice president at a Fortune 500 consulting company. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) while working for a multinational audit, tax, and consulting firm, he was the Controller at the National Hockey League Players’ Association.

Jeff was born in Kitchener-Waterloo and spent most of his childhood living in Owen Sound.  He moved to the Midland area full-time in 2019. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honors degree in Mathematics (Computer Science). Jeff also holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation.

Jeff is very supportive of many worthwhile causes in our local community. Currently, he is the Treasurer for the Quest Art School and Gallery in Midland.
