CARE4 – Digital Healthcare

CARE4 – Digital Healthcare

“Meditech Expanse is a new electronic software platform which will allow us to eliminate countless paper based systems and processes and create a truly digital health care environment which will lead to multiple improvements and efficiencies across the entire hospital.”

~ Dr. David Bayfield, Chief Medical Information Officer, GBGH

CARE4 is a multi-million-dollar investment in the enhancement of our electronic health record (EHR).  The upgrade to Meditech Expanse is an extensive, 18-month project that physically changes the everyday practices of our clinicians and staff. Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) has partnered with Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), Collingwood General & Marine Hospital (CGMH) and Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) to make this project a reality for patients in our region.  The GBGH share of the total project cost is $8.4-million.

Part of the total project cost is software, implementation & training.  The project also requires significant technology upgrades to work with the new system.

We need your help.

Outlined below are some of the key requirements for the project’s success.  Your donation will help to ensure that our physicians have dictation microphones, that our mobile laboratory & pharmacy technicians can print a barcode at the patient bedside, and that our hardworking care teams have access to the computers and tablets needed to record critical information directly into the patient record.

Electronic Health Records (EHR’s) and the exchange of health information electronically can help provide higher quality and safer care for patients, while creating tangible enhancements for the entire team at Georgian Bay General Hospital.

EMR’s help healthcare providers better manage care for patients and provide exceptional health care by:

  • Providing accurate, up-to-date, and complete information about patients at the point of care (bedside)
  • Helping promote legible, complete documentation and accurate, streamlined coding and billing
  • Enabling safer, more reliable prescribing
  • Enhancing privacy and security of patient data
  • Consistent electronic information shared between the 4 participating hospitals
  • Reducing costs through decreased paperwork, improved safety, reduced duplication of testing, and improved health
  • Helping providers more effectively diagnose patients, reduce medical errors, and provide safer care
