The Southeast Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce (SEGBAY), in partnership with Bell Media’s Pure Country 106 and Bounce 104.1, hosted its 8th Annual Golf Tournament on September 14, 2021. The tournament raised a total of $31,500 – with $21,000 being dedicated to the GBGH Foundation’s Kickstart Your Heart Campaign which raises funds to help purchase defibrillators and crash carts for Georgian Bay General Hospital, and $10,500 dedicated to the Wendat Lorna Tomlinson Residence for Seniors in Penetanguishene.

The 116 golfers in attendance at Oak Bay Golf Club in Port Severn were treated to the course’s beautiful views of Georgian Bay, with rain holding off until the day was done. Along with the un-FORE-gettable course, everyone got the chance to take part in a variety of contests such as Beat the Pro golfer and Hole-in-One contests. This was followed by a spectacular dinner prepared by Chef Luigi.

Fred Wareing, Chair of the Golf Tournament Committee, stated: “This was another fantastic tournament for the books. We are so pleased the weather held off so all the golfers could enjoy the challenges of this tough course – which was in great shape thanks to the hard work of the staff at Oak Bay Golf Club. Topped off by the delicious meal by Chef Luigi, it was an unforgettable day in all. We have heard nothing but positive feedback from everyone, and the golfers can’t wait to come back again next year!”

Wareing went on to say: “We sincerely thank each and every person who participated this year. In these unconventional times, we are proud you put your trust in us to keep you safe and healthy. To our many sponsors, staff at Oak Bay Golf Club, and the hardworking volunteers, we extend a humble thank you. In the 8 years of running this tournament we have raised a total of $260,000. The success of this tournament relies on your contributions and we’re so grateful for your support each year.”

On October 4, 2021, the GBGH Foundation’s Hartog-Robillard Advisory Committee presented the annual Robbert Hartog Health Innovation Award to two deserving individuals from Georgian Bay General Hospital.  Alysya (Aly) Wang and Lynne-Marie Culliton were recognized for their outstanding achievements which demonstrate the values of Robbert Hartog, who worked tirelessly on behalf of Georgian Bay General Hospital and the Foundation.   

Established by the GBGH Foundation in 2009, the $5,000 award is shared between the winners toward furthering their professional learning and development. 

“There are so many exceptional people at Georgian Bay General Hospital who are deserving of recognition, and this year’s recipients are outstanding,” says Lyn Wolfhard, chair, Hartog-Robillard Advisory Committee. “These are women who add value to the organization by increasing efficiency, effectiveness, and improving the patient experience at GBGH. I am honoured to present the award this year to Alysya and Lynne-Marie.”

Alysya Wang, project manager at GBGH, is recognized this year for her skills, knowledge, willingness to help others, and dedication to the hospital and community through the COVID-19 pandemic and the CARE4 (health information system) Project. 

“Aly has been instrumental in the launch, relocation and operation of the Midland COVID Assessment Centre through the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Julia Sek, director of patient care, GBGH. “Her quick and creative thinking has led to a number of innovative developments including auditing tools, streamlining document management systems and creating interactive tools to improve information flow for decision-making.”

Lynne-Marie Culliton, lead midwife at GBGH, is recognized for her commitment, drive and dedication to maternal, fetal and newborn well-being, as well as continuously being an advocate for patient needs with an inclusive and holistic approach. 

“Lynne-Marie has continually worked to grow the Midland Midwives Program and the GBGH Birthing Program since she joined the team here in 2013,” shares Marnie Lightfoot, director of patient care, GBGH. “Under her leadership, the midwifery scope of practice at GBGH has expanded to include epidural management and our statistics for exclusive breastfeeding among patients at discharge has nearly doubled.  Lynne-Marie works tirelessly at finding avenues to partner with our community and to bring forth much needed programing, funding and services to our community to best support their needs.” 

The GBGH Foundation Board of Directors, staff and members of the Hartog-Robillard Advisory committee extend their sincere congratulations and heartfelt thanks to this year’s recipients.

Jeff Holloway, Director

Jeff works at RBC Dominion Securities in Midland and joined RBC Wealth Management in 2014. In his current role, Jeff provides wealth management solutions to business owners, executives, professionals, and retirees.

Prior to working at RBC, Jeff was a partner at a leadership consulting firm and was a vice president at a Fortune 500 consulting company. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) while working for a multinational audit, tax, and consulting firm, he was the Controller at the National Hockey League Players’ Association.

Jeff was born in Kitchener-Waterloo and spent most of his childhood living in Owen Sound.  He moved to the Midland area full-time in 2019. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honors degree in Mathematics (Computer Science). Jeff also holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation.

Jeff is very supportive of many worthwhile causes in our local community. Currently, he is the Treasurer for the Quest Art School and Gallery in Midland.
