Tay Township Invests in Local Health Care

At Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH), every donation tells a story about community care, and Tay Township’s latest gift is a shining example. On August 25th, Mayor Ted Walker and Councillor Gerard La Chapelle presented the GBGH Foundation with a generous contribution of $37,500. This includes $25,000 for the Foundation’s Impact Fund and $12,500 to support physician recruitment in our region. Over the past 26 years, Tay Township’s commitment to local health care now totals more than $558,400.

“Tay Township is proud to continue supporting GBGH and the essential services it provides to our residents,” said Tay Township Mayor Ted Walker. “Investing in local healthcare and physician recruitment is part of our commitment to building a strong, resilient, and healthy community.” 

These funds will help ensure GBGH is equipped with the modern tools and technology needed to deliver excellent, patient-centered care. This year, the Foundation is focused on enhancing surgical services, updating laboratory equipment, and providing new stretchers—investments that directly improve the care and experiences of patients every day.

“We are deeply grateful to Tay Township for standing alongside us in the belief that excellent health care should be accessible to everyone, no matter where they live,” says Nicole Kraftscik, CEO of the GBGH Foundation. “Their continued support empowers us to invest in the modern medical equipment our hospital needs to care for thousands of patients each year.”

The $12,500 dedicated to physician recruitment will help GBGH attract and support doctors considering a move to North Simcoe. From community engagement to professional resources, every detail matters when welcoming new medical talent.

GBGH Foundation Launches $20-Million “We See You” Campaign

The Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation is proud to announce the official launch of its “We See You: Inside and Out” capital campaign, a bold $20-million initiative to strengthen health care in North Simcoe and ensure every patient, caregiver, and community member feels truly seen.

Unveiled first at the Foundation’s Power of Giving event on September 13, the campaign marks a pivotal moment in the hospital’s journey to enhance care, expand services, and invest in critical infrastructure. With the support of dedicated community leaders, including Campaign Co-Chairs, Chris and Candice Bondar of Gilkon Construction and Dr. Cait Button, Chief of GBGH’s Emergency Department, the Foundation is rallying the community to reimagine what compassionate, accessible healthcare looks like.

“We See You is more than a fundraising campaign – it’s a promise to every person who walks through the doors at GBGH: you will be seen, cared for, and supported,” says Nicole Kraftscik, CEO, GBGH Foundation. “It’s a promise that together, we will improve access to health care, invest in life-saving equipment, and strengthen our hospital for generations to come.”

The campaign priorities include:

• Acute Mental Health: Building a 48,000 square foot addition to provide timely, compassionate mental health care for patients in crisis.
• Mammography Services: Increasing access to early detection and diagnosis for breast cancer.
• Pharmacy & Laboratory Renovations: Modernizing two of the hospital’s most vital departments to meet today’s safety and infection control standards, while unlocking greater efficiency and accuracy in patient care.
• Hospital-Wide Equipment Upgrades: Ensuring every department has the tools needed to deliver excellent care.

The campaign is already more than 70% of the way to its goal, with $14-million raised to date thanks to the generosity of local donors, businesses, and philanthropic partners. This remarkable progress reflects the deep commitment of the North Simcoe community to building a healthier future, together.

“This campaign is powered by the people who live, work and play here,” added Kraftscik. “Every gift, every dollar, every act of support is helping us strengthen our hospital to truly see and care for every person.”

The Foundation invites individuals, businesses, and organizations to get involved in the campaign, whether through donations, pledges, monthly giving, volunteering, hosting events, and advocacy.
