With families across North Simcoe staying home amid the COVID-19 pandemic, local photographers are joining together to bring the #TheFrontStepsProject to our community.  Started by Boston photographer Cara Soulia, the purpose of the initiative is to bring our communities together during these uncertain times and let friends, neighbours and loved ones know how you’re doing.

Local photographers Darryl & Rebekah Tremblay, from Overstreet Media Productions, brought the idea to The Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation as a way to support the hospital and help tackle COVID-19.

“We are excited to share The Front Steps Project with our community and support our amazing local hospital,” says Rebekah. “Photos are taken from a safe distance of at least 10 feet away with an appropriate lens, and take about 5 minutes.  The photo files are shared digitally, so there’s no physical interaction or exchange, keeping us all safe!”

Photographers receive no compensation through this initiative, but offer their services asking that families make a donation to the GBGH Foundation in return.  Funds donated through the project will help support Georgian Bay General Hospital during this critical time, and ensure the hospital is equipped to respond to the current situation.

“The community has been so supportive in so many ways during these difficult times,” says Nicole Kraftscik, executive director, GBGH Foundation. “The Front Steps Project is a unique way to encourage much-needed financial support for our hospital, while offering families a chance to get outside, smile and capture these special moments of being together.”
