At 50 years old, Forrest Willet never thought he would have a heart attack.
But when he arrived at the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) gasping for air, having access to the right equipment, at the right time, gave him a second chance at life.
“I know first-hand that having the right equipment is essential to providing the highest level of care possible, and I’m so grateful that because I received the care I needed, when I needed it most, I got to go home to my family,” says Forrest.
And when Nancy Moreau was hospitalized with a serious blood infection and stopped breathing three times in one night, our expert team wouldn’t have been able to save her life multiple times without having access to resuscitation carts, diagnostic tools and other emergency equipment.
“Without GBGH I wouldn’t be here today. They saved my life and I’m so grateful for the exceptional care that I received,” says Nancy.

As Forrest and Nancy are well aware, having the right equipment isn’t a nice to have, it’s a MUST have. Yet, what most people don’t realize, is that even though the government does cover basic operating costs for hospitals, it doesn’t cover capital equipment purchases.
This year, we must raise nearly $2.5-million for vital capital equipment, plus $4-million for MRI, that will help save and improve lives at GBGH. We need to replace both x-ray rooms, chemistry analyzers for the lab which process 90% of all tests, surgical tables and many other pieces of other critical equipment. And we must rely on the sustained support of our incredible community to make these equipment purchases a reality.
