On Saturday, August 22, 2020, the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation will bring together their signature Georgian Bay Pops & Annual Gala into a virtual event experience.  The Power of Giving Virtual Gala will aim to raise $250,000 for the hospital.

The event will feature headline entertainment from JUNO Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter, Chantal Kreviazuk, performing from her home studio, along with online auction, live fundraising, and heart-warming stories from grateful patients.

Our virtual gala will engage and entertain our community, while also raising critical funds for our hospital,” says Nicole Kraftscik, executive director, GBGH Foundation.  “We have partnered with Layne, The Auctionista – a dynamic, philanthro-tainer, who will lead us through the event as our host.  Layne will engage supporters from their homes during an exciting Fund-a-Need segment, outlining how important donations are to ensure exceptional care for patients at GBGH.”

The past six months have put significant strain on the hospital’s capital budget, but the need for equipment and technology continues to grow.  The funds from the event will help to purchase telemetry packs for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU); the implementation of an electronic medical record; and address the investments made to prepare the hospital for a potential surge of COVID-19 patients.

Local businesses have stepped up generously to sponsor the Power of Giving Virtual Gala.  Community supporters, Faris Team Real Estate Brokerage, have partnered with the GBGH Foundation as the event’s presenting sponsor. This commences a three-year, $60,000 title sponsor commitment for the Gala.

We’re so honoured to be part of the Power of Giving Virtual Gala. As a family and as a local business, we feel so connected to this cause,” says Mark Faris, CEO & Broker, Faris Team Real Estate Brokerage. “GBGH has always been a local hero. We partner with GBGH because investing in local healthcare means investing in the safety, and mental and physical health of our clients and their families.

The Power of Giving Virtual Gala will stream on the GBGH Foundation You Tube Channel, starting at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22.  For more information and to register for FREE, visit www.Give2GBGH.ca or contact the Foundation office (foundation@gbgh.on.ca or 705-526-4483).

On Friday, July 10, Splash Events and Dragging Across Canada presented the first “Drive-In Drag Show Canada” variety show at the Midland Drive-In.  The stars of the show were Miss Conception, one of Canada’s busiest drag performers with special guests Sofonda and Lady Face.

“This was a first-of-its-kind show in Canada,” says Jamie Crouch, owner of Splash Events.  “It’s a great way for us all to get out, enjoy a fantastic, entertaining show, and still remain safe.”

Plus, $20 from each ticket sold was donated to Georgian Bay General Hospital, as a way to give back to the community, raising a total of $1,420!
