Growing the Next Generation of Care at GBGH
GBGH is strengthening health care in North Simcoe through education, collaboration, and the recruitment of talented healthcare professionals. This ongoing work supports thoughtful, sustainable, and patient-centred care across our community.
Each year, GBGH welcomes medical learners through programs like the Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP), providing students with the opportunity to learn in a rural setting, work alongside experienced care teams, and experience the rewards of practicing medicine in our community.
These experiences matter. Learners who complete part of their training in rural hospitals are more likely to choose rural medicine and establish their practices in communities like ours. By creating meaningful learning opportunities, GBGH is helping build a stronger, more sustainable future for local health care.
And that momentum is already being felt.
Last summer, GBGH welcomed two Family Medicine residents from the University of Toronto who are practicing in Midland through June 2027: Dr. Ahreni Saunthar and Dr. Amanda Silverio. This year, we are pleased to welcome three additional Family Medicine residents who will train with us through 2028: Dr. Jack Scarborough, Dr. Rita Noble, and Dr. Seaher Sakha.
As they learn alongside our physicians, nurses, and care teams, these residents are becoming part of the fabric of care at GBGH while gaining valuable experience serving patients and families across North Simcoe.
The impact of recruitment efforts is already being felt throughout the hospital. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Ollier to our Emergency Department and Dr. Gomez to our Obstetrics team this July—important additions that will help strengthen access to care for our growing community.
Recruitment is only one part of the journey.
Equally important is ensuring physicians feel supported once they arrive. Through strong onboarding, mentorship, and a welcoming culture, GBGH is creating an environment where healthcare professionals can build rewarding, long-term careers while providing excellent care close to home.
